About Annandale, NJ

This little village in Hunterdon County is home to two Revolutionary War sites connected to the opposing sides of the war. The Vought House was owed by Johannes Cristofel Vought, who remained loyal to Great Britain, and Jones Tavern, owned by Hunterdon County militiaman Thomas Jones. The two families crossed paths in June 1776 when Vought’s son John and other loyalists attacked the tavern, beating Jones and plundering the house. Vought and son would – briefly – go to jail for the attack. Vought was one of the officers who collected the boats Washington used to cross the Delaware.
