INFORMATION ON MULCH: Insects are attracted to wood but are attracted as much to the bark. Wood mulch is very sterile and does not have multiple spores to counteract each other. The most commonly developed spore in mulch is the Artillery or Shotgun Fungus. It spits black little spores from its chimney spout all over the house and car. If this is your problem, you need to remove all the mulch from the bed areas and put down cedar mulch.
